What is Countable used for?

Built by CPAs for CPAs, Countable is a fully cloud-based working paper automation and management tool.

Getting Started

Is there a free trial period and how do I sign up?

Try Countable for free with our no-commitment, 30-day trial. No credit card required and you can cancel anytime.

To start your trial, visit our Sign-up page, fill out the form, and hit submit. That’s it!

How do I continue using Countable after the trial runs out?

Once your trial period finishes, you will be directed to a payment page where you can upgrade to a paid account and continue to enjoy the benefits with no interruption. You can choose to register at any point during the trial with just a few clicks. However, we recommend taking advantage of our free trial period as it gives you complete access at no additional charge.

What are my options if I don’t want to continue after my trial period runs out?

You can permanently delete your account, but keep in mind that all your data will be lost. You can always put your account on pause instead of deleting it, which will save all your settings if and when you decide to jump back in.

Which staff in my firm should I create an account for?

We recommend creating an account for every team member to take full advantage of the features. The beauty of using Countable is that it offers a central online hub for everyone to communicate and access firm resources.

Which plan is right for my firm?

Our Essentials and Ignite Plans are great for firms that handle compilation engagements. Our Accelerate Plan is best suited for firms doing both compilations and reviews. More details on all our plans is available here: countable.co/pricing.

Which browsers can I use with Countable?

Countable is compatible with most browsers, including Safari, Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Billing and Account

How am I billed?

We will automatically charge your credit card at the beginning of every month, and email you a receipt after the payment has been processed. You can also access your invoice and receipt online, under Settings > Billing.

For Essentials Plan only: We’ll include the additional charge for each new engagement on the next month’s bill.

Will I get setup assistance and ongoing support for free?

You have unlimited access to our support team. Our friendly support team is available 10 hours a day/5 days a week to assist you with anything you need.

What is the cloud storage limit?

Our Essentials Plan provides 1 GB cloud storage. All other plans come with unlimited cloud storage. 

How do I cancel my Countable account?

It’s easy to cancel (but we’ll be sad to see you go). Click Settings in the top right corner of your account. Select Billing and find the “Delete Account” option at the bottom of the billing page.

Features and Integrations

Can I control what my employees can access?

You can adjust any user’s access level at any time by going to Settings > User and Access, selecting the team member and clicking the Edit icon on the far right.

How do I collaborate with my client?

Your client can access their very own Client Portal, where they can upload documents (and get reminders about missing documents), make comments on engagement letters and documents as well as sign off. You have complete control over what they have access to and can adjust their privacy settings at any time.

Can Countable integrate with my client’s bookkeeping system?

Absolutely. Countable is integrated with Xero, Sage, and Quickbooks. You can automatically sync up their bookkeeping and access any financial information you need through our tool. If you’re using a different bookkeeping system, you can request for it to be integrated.

Is Countable integrated with MS Office and PDF Editor?

Yes, Countable is fully integrated with MS Office 365 (Excel and Word) and PDF Editor. You can view and edit your documents directly on the tool as long as you have an MS Office 365 licence. Otherwise, you can store them on the tool and download them in any format you want.

Does Countable validate and push back entries with integrated platforms?

Yes, Countable enables users to approve and push back selected journal entries into Xero, QBO, and Sage after the engagement is completed. This ensures that the Xero and QBO finalized trial balance matches with your finalized financial statements and tax returns at year-end. It thereby prevents any retained earnings reconciliation differences next year if you forget to post the year-end adjusting entries or incorrectly post them.

Am I entitled to tool upgrades and how do I upgrade?

You’ll always be the first person to know. The best part about a cloud-based tool is that you’re always using the latest version. Updates happen automatically and won’t affect your data in the slightest. If the tool has been updated, you’ll see a message when you log in. What templates are available in Countable?

We offer a variety of templates including letters, reports, checklists, and engagement templates. Our selection is continually expanding, with updates twice a year. We plan to introduce tax templates and IntelliSheets (automated worksheets) before the end of 2023.


Which types of engagements are supported by Countable?

Currently, Countable supports Review and Compilation engagements for US and Canadian firms. It provides everything you need for your compilations and reviews in one central place. This means you can store documents, collaborate with your team and client, and sign off directly on the tool. Countable also enables you to automate tasks like mapping trial balances, populating lead sheets and generating financial statements thereby freeing up time for higher value advisory work. Are Audit and Tax templates available in Countable?

We are prioritizing the automation of Review and Compilation engagements in 2023. Tax templates are expected to be added by the end of 2023. Audit templates are planned for the future as the date is not determined yet.
